Dear all

It is important that when you complete the Drivers Daily Record Book that you complete it as accurately as possible as Safe TM Services Limited are Tachograph exempt.  So you need to complete the sheet as per the example below:

• Your name MUST be in full
• Week commencing and ending
• What you are doing if driving, the registration, and the self-explanatory boxes
• If not Driving, you must enter one of the following four categories:
  • “REST“
  • “OTHER WORK“
  • “HOLIDAY”
  • “ABSENCE DUE TO ILL HEALTH”

Please do not enter “Not Driving” or alike, it must be one of the four categories listed above.

Drivers MUST hand the completed weeks log to the Manager who requires to examine and sign to say that he agrees that the record is correct and this cannot be unsigned longer than 2 weeks or the driver could be issued a £3000 fixed penalty.  The driver can also be issued a fixed penalty for inaccurate record keeping such as not the correct wording on the record.

Drivers are exempt the EC Drivers regulations as they are Traffic Management employees.  They are then subject to GB Domestic rules.  They cannot do more than 10 hours of driving in a day and the duty time is a maximum of 11 hours – so a 12-hour shift is acceptable as 1 hour will be rest.  You cannot perform 13 hours + as again you could incur a fixed penalty for exceeding GB Domestic hours.

The ONLY exemption would be emergency road closure etc.

This memo is being issued as a reminder and to inform you that the Driver Daily record book will be scrutinised by the manager.  Failure to comply not only compromises road safety, it makes both you and this company more likely to attract fines and other legal action, so failure to comply may be treated as a disciplinary offence and punished accordingly.
